Turin, tourist destinations
Turin is the capital of Piedmont and is known for the refinement of its architecture and cuisine. To the north-west of the city the Alps soar. Sumptuous baroque buildings and ancient cafés line the avenues and grandiose Turin squares, such as Piazza Castello and Piazza San Carlo. Nearby stands the tall spire of the 19th-century Mole Antonelliana, which houses the interactive exhibitions of the National Cinema Museum.
The Egyptian Museum of Turin is the oldest museum in the world entirely dedicated to the Nilotic civilization and is considered, due to the value and quantity of its findings, the most important in the world after that of Cairo.
The National Cinema Museum is a museum located in Turin based in the symbolic monument of the city, the Mole Antonelliana. The Museum develops in an upward spiral, on multiple exhibition levels, giving life to a presentation full of collections that traces the history of cinema from its origins to the present day.
The Royal Palace of Venaria Reale is one of the Savoy residences forming part of the UNESCO serial site included in the World Heritage List since 1997. The Royal Palace of Venaria was designed by the architect Amedeo di Castellamonte.
The panoramic view of Turin and the Alpine chain from the Basilica of Superga which stands on a hill 672 meters above sea level. The Basilica can be reached by car, but it is much more suggestive to use the Sassi-Superga tramway.
